Summer visiting position in The Department of Computer Science at Boston College

The Department of Computer Science at Boston College invites applications for three visiting scholar positions in any of the following areas: parallel and distributed algorithms/optimization, proximal algorithms, convex and non-convex optimization, machine learning, statistics, graphical models, information theory, and related areas. Start date after May 2019, but flexible. Duration up to 4 months. The candidate will have the freedom to shape his/her project. Current and past projects can be found at www.jbento.info. Candidates are encouraged, but not required, to work on two major projects underway: one pertaining the comparison of large networks, and the other one dealing with machine learning problems that arise from biology research on the emergence of antibiotics resistance.
Required qualifications:
– Being a student enrolled in a Ph.D. program in computer science, statistics, operations research, or applied mathematics. Applicants already with a Ph.D., or Ph.D. students in Physics, Mathematics, Economics, and Biology are encouraged to apply, if proficient in some of the areas aforementioned.
– Advanced coursework in mathematics, statistics, optimization, machine learning, and signal processing
– Previous publications in top conferences in ML, AI, optimization, statistics, information theory, and related fields.
