Funded PhD position on large-scale machine learning and theoretical foundation of deep learning, University of Massachusetts

Applications are invited for a funded PhD position (starting Fall 2019) in the areas of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The candidates will work under the supervision of Prof. Farhad Pourkamali in the Computer Science Department. The main objectives of the research will be on developing large-scale machine learning algorithms, such as clustering data of unprecedented scale and complexity, and theoretical foundations of Deep Learning, including the generalization ability of deep learning, regularization, generative models, and optimization. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply the developed techniques and methodologies to high-impact domains such as medical informatics, business analytics, and structural engineering through interdisciplinary collaboration. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is located about 25 miles northwest of Boston in the high-tech corridor of Massachusetts.
