Department
The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) is a large and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. CSEE is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students. The School is expanding, due to increasing student numbers and now wishes to appoint additional lecturers to help us grow. As part of this growth, we wish to appoint two new lecturers to enhance the School's existing research in the areas of computer science and electronic engineering related to Embedded and Intelligent Systems. Appointment will be made as Lecturer.
The successful candidates will be expected to fit into the Embedded and Intelligent Systems (EIS) Research Laboratory and collaborate with existing staff in the laboratory, the Intelligent Embedded Systems and Environments and the Robotics research groups and other staff in the school. It is specifically expected that the successful candidates will have experience in the area of Embedded and Intelligent Systems. The Laboratory plays a leading role in this area for the EPSRC National Centre for Nuclear Robotics and other EPSRC and EU funded research grants, the successful candidates are expected to contribute to research in this and other relevant research areas of the Laboratory.
Duties of the Role
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver excellent research and teaching, generate research income, to contribute to the administration and management of the School, and to the local, regional and international profile of the Department.
We wish to enhance the School's existing research as well as open up and develop new research activities that will become recognized as outstanding and internationally leading. The post will include teaching on our courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. This may include delivering existing modules, developing new modules and generally enhancing our research-led teaching. We aim for excellence in education as well as research and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline. They must also have fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. Candidates will have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, and of designing and planning learning activities. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes, and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
