Tenure Track Professor in Internet of Things at Aalto University
Country/Region : Finland
Description
Aalto University is a community of bold thinkers where science and art meet technology and business. We are committed to identifying and solving grand societal challenges and building an innovative future. Aalto University has six schools with nearly 11 000 students and nearly 400 professors. Our campuses are located in Espoo and Helsinki, Finland.
Aalto University Department of Communications and Networking invites applications for
Tenure track position in Internet of Things
The position will be filled primarily at the Assistant Professor level.
The department of communications and networking seeks to hire a tenure track professor that can contribute to the development of core enabling technology of IoT / IoE as well as help the industry and enterprises to adapt the technology to further improve their productivity and enable completely new applications. The research focus of the successful candidate may be related to enabling network technologies and architectures (virtualization, artificial intelligence enabled networking, network security, cloud federation etc.) or it may be on the techno-economics of IoE.
The Internet of Everything (IoE) refers to intelligent connection of people, processes, data and things. The “Internet of Everything” builds on the foundation of the Internet of Things (IoT) by adding network intelligence that allows convergence, orchestration and visibility across previously disparate systems. The network plays a critical role in the IoE – it must provide an intelligent, secure, and manageable infrastructure that can scale to support billions of context-aware devices.
IoT/IoE has numerous application areas such as eHealth, transportation including automated driving, industrial internet, smart homes, smart cities, etc. Typically, an IoT is connected to a cloud. Key research issues include: security, privacy, trust, managing the massive number of devices, low power solutions, IoT processing architecture, IoT cloud federation, big data processing including Artificial Intelligence, techno-economics and legal issues etc. Standards in this domain are just emerging.
Scientific environment
Department of Communications and Networking (Comnet) carries out research in the areas of information and communications theory, communications and networking technology, ubiquitous computing, and communications ecosystem. Comnet combines the research traditions from electrical and communications engineering with computer science, economics and behavioral sciences. With 16 professors, Comnet is well positioned to approach research and teaching in communication and networking in a comprehensive fashion covering all the OSI layers from physical to applications and angles from technology to economics and user interfaces. Requirements
We look for applicants who have:
A doctorate in Communications Engineering, Networking Technology, Computer Science or in a related field
Potential to carry out independent research and attract research funding at the highest level
Passion and ability to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
Ability to create international collaboration
Skills to cooperate with other research groups using jointly operated infrastructure
Fluent command in English
