Description
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) - The Research University in the
Helmholtz Association creates and imparts knowledge for the society and the
environment. It is our goal to make significant contributions to mastering
the global challenges of mankind in the fields of energy, mobility, and
information. For this, about 9300 employees of KIT cooperate in a broad
range of disciplines in research, academic education, and innovation.
The Institute of Anthropomatics and Robotics within the Division 2 -
Informatics, Economics, and Society - is seeking to fill, as soon as
possible, the position of a
Assistant Professor for Medical Robotics
(W1, non-tenure track).
The successful candidate is expected to be highly qualified and
internationally well-established persons with research experience in
innovative hardware and software concepts for medical robotics. Required
qualifications include evidence of the ability to establish and pursue a
program of high quality research in one or more of the following areas:
- robot-assisted interventions,
- human-robot collaboration in operating rooms,
- machine learning in medical robotics,
- software and control systems for medical robots and systems, and
- reliability analysis and certification in medical robotics.
KIT significantly increases its activities in robotics and artificial
intelligence; candidates are strongly encouraged to engage with national and
international partners from industry and academia to initiate new research
projects and collaborations.
The successful candidate will be given the opportunity for graduate and
undergraduate teaching in the own research domain, as well as to gain
experience in the field of basic lectures at the KIT Department of
Informatics.
The professorship will be part of the Institute for Anthropomatics and
Robotics. The candidate’s lab is already well-equipped with state-of-the-art
robots, optical sensor systems, haptic devices, medical models, and
experimental surgery setups.
German language skills are not required but will simplify everyday life.
Support for acquiring German language skills is provided. To be able to give
basic lectures, German language skills are required.
Outstanding scientific achievements are expected, e. g. in the context of an
excellent doctorate in Computer Science/Informatics and didactic aptitude.
Section 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg applies.
Employment will initially be offered for four years. After a positive
evaluation, employment can be extended by two additional years. The
evaluation criteria for this assistant professor (non-tenure track) are
according to the "Qualitätssicherungskonzept für Juniorprofessuren mit
