Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in ML for Robotics and AI

Country/Region : UK - United Kingdom

Website : https://www.vacancies.ed.ac.uk/pls/coreh...

Description

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate in an EPSRC funded Robotics and Artificial Intelligence hub: Offshore Robotics for Certification of Assets (ORCA). This is a large project with numerous open positions, including one within the Machine Intelligence Group on Machine Learning for Robotics and AI. The position will be based in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.
The ORCA Hub is an ambitious initiative that brings together internationally leading experts from 5 UK universities with over 30 industry partners. The hub is led by the Edinburgh Centre of Robotics (Heriot-Watt University and University of Edinburgh), in collaboration with Imperial College, Oxford and Liverpool Universities. This multi-disciplinary consortium brings unique expertise in: Subsea, Ground and Aerial robotics; machine learning and computer vision; as well as human-machine interaction and explainable AI.
The particular focus of the PDRA on this project will be:
Application of machine learning for fault recognition, diagnostics and prognosis. Development of one-shot transfer learning methods to deal with learning from sparse fault data.
Certification methods for self-learning and adaptive robot systems. Integration of probabilistic graphical models with deep learning. Deep learning for domain generalisation.
Application of these techniques in robotic testbeds, demonstrating the capability in an integrated system.
The Research Associate will have opportunities for collaboration, both with a cohort of other similar Research Associates within the School and the world class faculty covering all areas of machine learning, AI and robotics.
This fixed-term post is available for a period of four years. The closing date for applications is 14 December 2017.
