The Institute of Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma is seeking applications for multiple tenure-track Assistant Professor positions for the Computer Science and Systems program. These are full-time positions with a nine-month service period, beginning September 2018. A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or related field is required. We look for candidates with demonstrated skill in teaching, who can pursue a vigorous research agenda and are familiar with industry practices. We are particularly interested in hiring candidates with evidence of effectiveness in teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: introductory programming courses; software engineering; computer architecture; operating systems; and computer ethics. Highly qualified applicants in all areas of computer science will be considered.
The University of Washington Tacoma, one of three UW campuses, is an urban undergraduate and graduate level campus that is changing the face of its region economically, culturally, and architecturally. The Institute of Technology was created in 2001 through a public/private partnership to address the critical industry demand for baccalaureate and masters level computing and engineering professionals. The Institutes 800+ students are enrolled in four undergraduate degree programs: Computer Engineering and Systems (ABET accredited), Computer Science and Systems, Information Technology, and Electrical Engineering in addition to a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Systems, and a professional masters degree in Cybersecurity and Leadership, in partnership with UW Tacomas Milgard School of Business. The Institute is expanding its degree offerings as it continues to grow. Our MS in Computer Science and Systems program has interdisciplinary tracks to leverage the research strengths of other academic units on campus, particularly in Data Science, GIS, Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity and Cyber-Physical Systems. The Institute is also the academic home for the Center for Data Science, with established research partnerships that currently engage the healthcare and insurance industries, corporate and government entities, and other universities worldwide, providing faculty, research staff and students with applied research opportunities. UW Tacoma faculty engage in teaching, research, and service and generally participate in lower division, upper division, and graduate instruction.
