The Data Analytics Lab at ETH Zurich is looking for a motivated and talented PhD student, driven to get involved in cutting edge research in the areas of machine learning, data science and information retrieval with strong application in the biomedical sector.
The position is fully funded for four years. The project will be carried out in collaboration with Brown University in the USA and has access to considerable amounts of patient data provided by a number of European and US clinical partners. The PhD candidate will join an excellent and highly ambitious team at the forefront of research in the area of biomedical data science with the goal of enhancing clinical text understanding by large-scale data-driven methods. Starting dates are flexible but we are looking to hire as soon as possible.
The successful candidate should hold an MSc degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related disciplines. An interdisciplinary perspective and experience is valued. Specifically experience in one or more of the following topics will be helpful: Machine learning (Deep-learning in particular), Data Science, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, Biomedical Science. Excellent programming skills in Python or other high-level languages are expected and experience with frameworks such as Scikit-learn, Lucene, Tensorflow, Torch or CUDA are beneficial. Fluent communication skills (written and presentation) in English are essential. Due to the close collaboration with Brown University, the successful candidate is expected to visit our partners in the US for extended periods.
