High-throughput Data Analyst – Transcriptome-wide approaches in Cardiology (m/f) at University Hospital Heidelberg

Country/Region : Germany

Website : http://med.uni-heidelberg.de

Description

The division of Bioinformatics and Systems Cardiology at the Klaus Tschira Institute for Integrative Computational Cardiology / Department of Internal Medicine III,
seeks to fill one full-time position: High-throughput Data Analyst – Transcriptome-wide approaches in Cardiology (m/f)
Starting date: as soon as possible / Duration: Initially 24 months; option of further extension.
The era of cohort-scale genomics and transcriptomics promises new and exciting ways to explore complex bio-medical relationships. The successful applicant will enter collaborative projects focusing on transcriptome-wide approaches to study study protein and ncRNA function in heart disease and remodeling. This project will build on genomic and RNA-seq data from animal models (rat, mouse and zebrafish), patient samples and publicly available data (e.g. GTex). Herein, our bio-medical research questions focus on how environmental and genome diversity affects RNA metabolism in cardiac development and stress. The postdoc will work in close collaboration with experimental scientists in the cardiology department at Heidelberg University Hospital. The project is partially funded through the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK).
Tasks
 Data analysis of high-throughput data (next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry) using established workflows.
 Integration with publicly available data, data mining with basic statistical models.
 Intuitive visualization and (meta) data management through web interfaces.
Required Qualifications
• BSc/MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Data Science or closely related areas.
• Strong communication skills.
• Very good proficiency in data mining with at least one of R, Julia or (I)Python.
• Some experience in web application development is an asset.
What we offer
The Dieterich Lab (www.dieterichlab.org) offers a stimulating, diverse and international research environment.  individual, target-oriented advanced training
 ticket for public transport
 nursery and kindergarten as well as holiday organization for schoolchildren
 help with flat-hunting
 health promotion
 University sports / library
The University Hospital Heidelberg is one of the major healthcare centers in Germany. Our objective is the development of innovative diagnostics and therapies as well as their quick implementation for the patient. With about 10,000 employees in more than 50 specialized clinical departments with roughly 1,900 beds, about 66,000 patients in part-time and full-time inpatient treatment as well as 1,000,000 patients in ambulant treatment are medicated each year.
