Postdoc in Statistical NLP / ML at Uni Edinburgh / Uni Amsterdam

Country/Region : Netherlands, The

Website : http://ivan-titov.org

Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in statical modeling for semantic reasoning and semantic parsing, as part of Ivan Titov’s NWO VIDI Project Scaling Semantic Parsing to Unrestricted Domains. The aim of the project is developing effective semantic parsers and statistical models for reasoning relying on machine learning (incl. deep learning / deep generative models / structured prediction). The primary focus is on inducing these models from large amounts of unannotated text (e.g., on the Web) while guided by existing prior knowledge (e.g., in the form of annotated data). Since there is flexibility with regards to the role in the project, both candidates focusing on more computational linguistic and more machine learning aspects of the project are encouraged to apply.
The postdoc will be affiliated with the University of Amsterdam but hosted at the University of Edinburgh where Ivan Titov's team will be located. This is a 2-year position, the preferred starting date is September 1, 2017 (but negotiable).
Academic environment
The postdoc will be hosted at the Institute for Language, Cognition and Computation (ILCC), School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. ILCC is dedicated to the pursuit of basic and applied research on computational approaches to language, communication and cognition. It is a a leading research institute for computational approaches to language, cognition and communication (e.g., ranked no. 1 in the world for NLP research according to http://csrankings.org). The postdoc will be affiliated with the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).
