Post-doc position in Machine Learning – Computer Science Department, Università di Pisa

Country/Region : Italy

Website : https://www.unipi.it/ateneo/bandi/assegn...

Description

The position is offered in the context of a 3-years MIUR-SIR project and research activities are targeted at the design and development of machine learning and deep learning models for structured data (trees and graphs in particular). Applications will be developed on machine vision, NLP and biomedical data. The position is initially for 1 year and can be extended to 3 years.
Candidates are expected to have at least Ph.D. level expertise on machine learning witnessed by scientific publications in well-reputed venues in the field. Possession of a Ph.D. degree is, however, not a strict requirement for the application. Expertise on probabilistic generative models, on deep learning and in learning with structured data are considered a plus.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support coordinating the work of a group of 10 undergraduate and graduate students. The position comes with pocket money (2K Euro/year) supporting independent research by the grant holder.
The CS Department in Pisa (www.di.unipi.it) is the oldest in Italy in the field and the first to host a M.Sc. degree (in 1969) and a Ph.D. school in Computer Science. It is a highly dynamic research environment and in the last 4 years it has hired under-35 Assistant Professors amounting to 20% of its current faculty. Roughly 50% of the newly hired personnel have obtained their Ph.D. in a different University.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Davide Bacciu (bacciu-AT-di.unipi.it).
