Country/Region : Norway

Website : http://ict.hib.no

Description

The Department of Computing, Mathematics, and Physics at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences has an open position as associate professor in software engineering for big data and machine learning.
Faculty members at the department are active in international, national and regional research, participating in projects in collaboration with many universities and companies internationally and nationally. The research activities at the department is part of the applied ICT Engineering research programme ( http://ict.hib.no ) of the Faculty, which constitute the foundation for the newly established PhD programme in Computer Science: Software Engineering, Engineering Computing, and Sensor Networks. In addition, the department offers bachelor programmes in computing and information technology, and a master’s programme in software engineering.
The position is targeting machine learning and big data, an area that is also gaining regional interest and importance, and which has good external funding opportunities. This makes the position an excellent base for exploiting the strong industry contact network of the department to establish a machine learning research agenda and develop application-oriented research projects in areas such as healthcare, computational medicine, fisheries, robotics, sensor networks, and cyber-physical systems. It is envisioned that the successful applicant will conduct research in the intersection of machine learning and software engineering in collaboration with the research groups in software engineering, engineering computing, and sensor networks and cyber-physical systems. Specifically, we seek candidates with a research profile and a proven research track record covering one or more of the areas: approaches, algorithms and techniques for machine learning, data analysis and statistical inference, analysis and interpretation of big data sets, sensor and data fusion, software implementation and frameworks for machine learning, and applications of machine learning.
