Postdoc Position: Interpretable Machine Learning Models for Multidimensional Time Series

The application stage is open for a Postdoc Position (Level1) in the Machine Learning and Statistics Group, Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University College Dublin (Insight-AT-UCD). Deadline for applications is Thursday, February 23, 5pm. Interviews are expected to take place soon after that deadline.
This is a research-focused role that will involve contributing to research projects on
interpretable machine learning methods for multidimensional time series
classification. The successful candidate will work directly with the PI and Insight
industry partners to design, develop, and deliver research prototypes,
as well as disseminate research via top-level journal and conference publications.
Essential Skills:
-PhD in Computer Science or Computational Statistics or related discipline.
-Expertise in machine learning and/or statistical modeling and application of these
techniques to complex real-world problems (as showcased by a strong publication record in top-tier ML and KDD conferences and journals).
-Strong maths and programming skills; experience with developing code to analyze
large-scale data (time series in particular), using languages such as C++, Java, Python, R, Matlab or similar.
-Excellent Organizational and Communication Skills.
Desirable Skills:
-Experience in developing scalable machine learning methods (for classification/regression in particular).
-Experience in working with structured data, such as sequences and time series
-Experience in developing machine learning models for multi-dimensional time series data.
-Experience in setting own research agenda.
-Experience engaging in research collaborations with industry.
Description of position:
This is a 2 year funded postdoc level 1 (PD1) position, with a net salary of euro 33,000-36,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications (corresponding gross salary is in the range of 44,000-47,000 per year).
The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after
completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time.
If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1,
or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive
of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply
and should refer to PD2 posts instead.
Interviews are expected to take place in end Feb or early March 2017.
The successful candidate is expected to start by April-May 2017.
