Halmstad University (Sweden) invites applications for doctoral studies in the area of machine learning applied to intelligent environments. The PhD position will focus on transfer learning, anomaly detection and on-line learning.

The PhD student will mainly be working in the project Situation Awareness for Ambient Assisted Living (SA3L), which focus on the development of robust machine learning systems to improve the understanding of resident behaviour patterns, health and needs within sensor-equipped home environments. These home-based systems are expected to process and share information across different physical homes in order to increase accuracy for applications such deviation detection (e.g. to detect falls at home). To meet such challenges, the research aims to increase understanding of how methods such as transfer learning and on-line learning can be used to enhance systems ability to generalize and evolve through incremental machine learning. Furthermore, the project also concerns research on methods for finding optimal sensor configurations in the home.
