We are looking for a talented Applied Scientist - an individual with a desire to develop
solutions to very difficult problems, to create, innovate, and define the next generation

The STC Europe - London office focuses on improving key parts of Bing, Edge, Office,
and Windows using Machine Learning, IR and NLP techniques. Our efforts leverage the
entire breadth and depth of the Bing search system ? a distributed system with hundreds
of thousands of computers tuned to calculate results from billions of documents thousands
of times a second and return the results to our users in a matter of milliseconds.

Essential Experience
Success in this position requires a broad set of experiences and skills, including
broad knowledge of IR/ML/NLP techniques, coding, and the ability to build a collaborative
working relationship with other researchers and engineers.
You will be expected to work proficiently on many levels ? such as identifying new techniques
by defining the metrics to measure their effectiveness, estimating their potential through
data mining, designing and implementing them offline and in our live production systems,
and evaluating them of A/B experiments.
Your coding skills will be challenged writing scalable, distributed and highly efficient
components. Candidates should be ready to give evidence of their ability to write
efficient and maintainable code.
Highly desirable:
* A background in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or Information Retrieval
* Data mining solutions on text data
* Experience with Hadoop, Dryad or similar systems
* Prior work on large scale database or Internet-scale applications
Qualifications:
* A PhD, in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics
or related subjects. Exceptional candidates with an MSc in one of the areas above
will also be considered.
Technical/Functional Skills:
* Solid coding skills in C#, F#, Java, or similar languages
* Strong theory/algorithmic background and very good understanding on how to apply
advanced knowledge to solve real problems.
