Fully funded positions in deep reinforcement learning and probabilistic programming at Brigham Young University (BYU)

Country/Region : Norway

Website : http://cs.byu.edu

Description

The Perception, Control and Cognition Laboratory at Brigham Young
University (BYU) invites applications for several fully-funded PhD
positions, both in deep RL, probabilistic programming, and their
intersection.
Our lab is focused on developing novel model-based deep RL
algorithms that blend high-level Bayesian cognition with low-level
DNN-based perception.
Key areas of focus are
* Probabilistic programming languages capable of describing
complex robot control and perception tasks
* Statistical inference algorithms capable of handling real-time
video, audio, and proprioception signals
* Hardware acceleration of inference algorithm through GPUs and
neuromorphic computing architectures.
* Mixing high-level reasoning and low-level signal processing
* The use of deep neural networks for model building and inference
Our primary application domains include simulated robotics and
medical imaging, and other domains that involve complex inputs
(such as video streams) and complex outputs (such as
high-dimensional control signals).
Requirements
We seek exceptional and highly-motivated students with a passion
for tackling challenging problems. Students should have a depth
of knowledge in mathematical and computational approaches. Prior
research experience in statistical machine learning is highly
desirable.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Prof. David
Wingate (wingated-AT-cs.byu.edu) directly.
