Description

The Machine Learning Group at the University of Cambridge is looking for exceptional students for its PhD programme in Advanced Probabilistic Machine Learning.
The Machine Learning Group (http://mlg.eng.cam.ac.uk) is internationally renowned, comprising about 30 researchers, including Prof. Zoubin Ghahramani, Prof. Carl Edward Rasmussen, Dr. Rich Turner and Dr. Jose Miguel Hernandez Lobato.
We are seeking highly creative and motivated PhD students with a keen interest in doing basic research in machine learning and its scientific applications. Research topics include, but are not limited to, deep probabilistic learning, Bayesian optimisation, k-shot learning, approximate inference, time-series modelling, control and reinforcement learning.
Applicants should hold (or be expected to hold) a degree in Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Physics, or Computer Science preferably with 1st class honours (or equivalent). Some practical experience of machine learning or statistics would be strongly preferred (e.g. course work assignments or research).
There are two funding tracks available to applicants. First, MLG has three pre-allocated DTP EPSRC PhD studentships for UK / EU students. Second, there are also centrally allocated University funds that applicants of all backgrounds should apply to.
