Country/Region : Sweden

Website : https://kau.mynetworkglobal.com/en/what:...

Description

The Faculty of Health Science and Technology has an opening for a full-time post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in the field of computer networking with focus on Network Function Virtualization and Performance Modelling. The position is a full time position for one year and can be extended for another year based on a successful performance review. The starting date for the position is by mutual agreement within the time span November 1, 2016 and January 1, 2017.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science consists of the two research subjects: Mathematics and Computer science. It has a research and teaching staff of more than 60 persons. In Computer Science, research and education are focused on computer networking and distributed systems, computer security and privacy, and software engineering, and are conducted in close cooperation with international, national and regional partners from both academia and industry.
Computer Science is currently in an expansion phase to further strengthen its focus areas and consolidate and develop its international position in research. It has recently been established as an excellent research group at Karlstad University and funding for the expansion is available through the University's strategic efforts to strengthen research. The Swedish KK-Foundation has also granted additional funds to develop a research profile within the Computer Science focus areas in close collaboration with industry.
Duties
The main duty of the position is to conduct research within the framework of the research profile HITS funded by the Knowledge Foundation. The research profile focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of novel solutions to support high quality networked services in an increasingly mobile and dynamic world, focusing on Cloud based service delivery. For this post, we are working together with Ericsson AB to optimize the service delivery from the Cloud for next generation Network Function Virtualization. The work involves Performance Modelling and Performance Optimization of various aspects of Virtualized Network Functions. The project is to be conducted within a unique research group with strong track records in transport layer protocols, software defined networking, and wireless networks.
The successful candidates will join a strong and motivated research team in order to carry out the following tasks:
Conducting high quality research and producing results
Coordinating research projects and delivering outputs
Providing guidance to PhD and MSc students
Disseminating results through scientific publications
Assisting in teaching duties
Participate in the Organization of scientific conferences and workshops
The position also includes interaction with other parts of the university as well as with the community and it is therefore important that the candidate has the ability to collaborate with other groups.
Requirements
To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD (or to be near completion) in Computer Science with a specialization in Computer Networking or have corresponding qualifications. The candidate must have completed the degree no more than three years before the last date for applications, unless special grounds exist.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. The candidate should have excellent mathematical skills in the area of optimization as well as good programming skills (Java/Python is strongly desirable).
Assessment grounds
In the assessment procedure, emphasis will be placed on the applicant's scientific experience in relation to the HITS profile in which the applicant is expected to work. Knowledge or experience in some of the areas of Network Function Virtualization, ETSI MANO, Software Defined Networking (OpenDaylight), and/or OpenStack Neutron is an advantage. Certification such as CCNA/CCNP in the area of Data Center or Routing is of benefit. Experience from participating in national and international research projects with partners from academia and industry is also an advantage.
Karlstad University values personal qualities such as the ability to cooperate and establish good relations with colleagues as well as the ability to work independently and to take initiatives.
The application should include:
Personal letter describing the applicant and her/his research interests in relation to the announced position
A detailed CV
List of published works
Copies of relevant diplomas, certificates and recommendation letters
Contact information of at least two reference persons
Application should be submitted electronically via the Karlstad University web-based recruitment tool, MyNetwork with uploaded attachments. Documents that cannot be sent electronically, should be sent to: Karlstads universitet, Registrator, 651 88 KARLSTAD, state ref.no REK2016/167.
