The PRALab group (http://pralab.diee.unica.it/en) at UNICA (University of Cagliari) is looking for a top postdoctoral researcher with expertise in computer vision and pattern recognition. The activities of the Researcher will be focused in the development of advanced tools based on Deep Neural Network (DNN) for the extraction of visual features aimed to the semantic interpretation of images according to the presence or absence of more elementary semantic concepts.
TITLE: Advanced techniques for the identification and extraction of low-level features to the semantic interpretation of images through Deep Neural Network (DNN).

ABOUT PRA Lab:
PRA Lab works on the development of next generation pattern recognition systems for real applications such as biometric authentication, text categorization, and intrusion detection in computer networks. PRA mission is to address fundamental issues for the development of future pattern recognition systems, in the context of real applications.
PRA Lab has 20 years experience on the development of Pattern Recognition systems. The Lab head is Prof. Fabio Roli, IEEE and IAPR fellow. The Lab is made up of more than 30 people, including faculty members, post-doc researchers, PhD students and lab fellows.
RESEARCH TOPIC:
The volume of multimedia content is increasing at a fast space due to the widespread availability of portable devices for the acquisition of images and videos, and the availability of large space for its storage through Internet. Consequently, there is the need for advanced tools for managing such a large volume of data in terms of automatic content classification techniques for the efficient retrieval of multimedia content related to a specific concept. These content are often shared through web sites such as social networks, and they are often described by low-quality tags. This project will be rooted in the past activities of the research group related to interactive multimedia retrieval systems.
In particular, the activities of the Researcher will be focused in the development of advanced tools based on Deep Neural Network (DNN) for the extraction of visual features aimed to the semantic interpretation of images according to the presence or absence of more elementary semantic concepts.
PROFILE:
? MSc in computer science, computer engineering, electronic engineering, telecommunications engineering.
? Programming experience in Python or C/C++.
? Relevant research skills and experience in computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition (demonstrated by high quality publications)
? A PhD degree with excellent academic credentials or at least two year of documented research activity
? Familiarity with deep learning
? Good English communication skills (oral and written)
