The Department of Computer Science (DIKU) is expanding its research and educational activities in data science and hereby invites applications for the position of Associate Professor in Theory of Machine Learning. The Associate Professor is expected to contribute to teaching and research in machine learning and data science in general. We are looking for a recognized expert in Machine Learning Theory, in particular Online Learning. Duties of the Associate Professor may also include research management, educational guidance and supervision of assistant professors as well as professional assessment work. Furthermore, the Associate Professor is expected to contribute to the new data science activities at DIKU.
Preferred candidates must hold the professional and personal qualifications stated below:
-Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics or Applied Mathematics or equivalent
-Strong academic background in machine learning documented by publications in top tier venues. In particular, publications at NIPS, ICML or COLT are required.
-Well-developed collaborative skills, documented by, for example, publications with different groups of co-authors
-Scientific community engagement as documented, for example, by having organized scientific events, service on program committees etc.
-Documented teaching qualfications
-Fluency in spoken and written English
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
The Image Section hosts experts in image analysis & processing, computer vision, computer simulation, numerical optimization, information retrieval, and machine learning. Their work ranges from theoretical analyses, over algorithm development, to solving concrete problems for science, industry, and society. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
Commencing salary is currently For Assoc. Professor ? up to DKK 449,720 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 76,902)
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
