Postdoc Position in Scalable Machine Learning for Product Repricing

Postdoc Position in the Machine Learning and Statistics Group, Insight Centre for
Data Analytics, University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland (Insight-AT-UCD).
The INSIGHT Centre for Big Data Analytics is a joint initiative between researchers at
University College Dublin, NUI Galway, University College Cork, and Dublin City University,
as well as other partner institutions. It brings together a critical mass of more than
200 researchers from Ireland's leading ICT centres to develop a new generation of data
analytics technologies in a number of key application areas.
INSIGHT's research focus encompasses a broad range of data analytics technologies and
challenges, from machine learning, decision analytics and social network analysis to
linked data, recommender systems and the sensor web.
This is a research-focused role that will involve contributing to research projects on
scalable machine learning methods, with applications to product classification and
repricing. The successful candidate will work directly with the PI and Insight
industry partners to design, develop, and deliver research prototypes,
as well disseminate research via top-level journal and conference publications.
Essential Skills:
-PhD in Computer Science or Computational Statistics or related discipline.
-Expertise in machine learning and/or statistical modeling and application of these
techniques to complex real-world problems (as showcased by a strong publication record
in top-tier ML and KDD conferences and journals).
-Strong maths and programming skills; experience with developing code to analyze
large-scale data, using languages such as C++, Java, Python, R, Matlab or similar.
-Excellent Organizational and Communication Skills
Desirable Skills:
-Experience in developing scalable machine learning methods (for classification/regression in particular).
-Experience in developing efficient approaches for data processing and
predictive modeling for real-time tasks.
-Experience in setting own research agenda.
-Experience engaging in research collaborations with industry.
Description of position:
This is a 2 year funded postdoc level 1 (PD1) position, with a salary of euro 36,000 per year.
The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after
completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time.
If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1,
or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive
of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply
and should refer to PD2 posts instead.
The successful candidate is expected to start by August-September 2016.
