Fully Funded PhD in Text Analytics for the Agri-food Indutry

A fully-funded PhD studentship is available to work on a text analytics application in the agri-food area at the Insight Centre in UCD in Dublin, Ireland. The ConsumerWise project will develop media monitoring tools to monitor the online discourse around emerging technologies in food production. These tools will go beyond the sentiment analysis solutions typically used in general for customer monitoring. Rather, they will use topic modelling and text classification approaches to automatically extract from online sources not only the sentiment of consumers with regard to a particular technology, but also summaries of the most strongly held opinions and references to the sources of these opinions.
The major research questions posed by the project will address the identification of opinions within media and social media sources, linking disparate sources around the same topic or event, and how best to present the large amounts of content and analysis back to analysts in a comprehensible and actionable manner. The successful candidate will work closely with other researchers at Insight UCD and Teagasc to address the above questions and to deploy demonstrator systems in a live environment.
