Software Engineer (Data Science) - NICTA (Data61) Melbourne

We’re looking for a talented Software Engineer (Data Science) to join the Engineering & Design Team at Data61. You will join as an engineer in a small team of machine learning researchers, research engineers, and software engineers. You will be designing and maintaining state-of-the-art prediction systems for solving real-world problems in such diverse domains as demography, environmental modelling, geology, and finance. These systems will be deployed in production to Data61’s external customers.

Desired Skills and Experience
Essential Requirements:
? Degree qualification in Computer Science or related discipline with an excellent academic record.
? Demonstrated high degree of expertise in modern C++ and Python.
? Experience with software development tools for performance monitoring, memory checking, code optimisation and automated unit testing.
? Experience with AWS, particularly EC2
? Experience in software development for Linux.
? Experience in delivering robust software in a production environment..
? Excellent problem solving skills.
? Highly self-motivated and ability to quickly learn new technologies and languages.
? Evidence of strong written and oral communication.
? Ability to carry out tasks with minimal supervision.
? Experience in using software development tools for version control and issue tracking.
? Willingness to comply with EEO and OH&S standards,
Desirable Requirements:
? Experience with high-performance numerical computing (especially linear algebra).
? Experience with Numpy (and/or MATLAB).
? A strong mathematical background, especially in probability theory.
? Experience in distributed computing architectures.
? Experience with Docker and container deployment.
? Experience with configuration tools such as Ansible and Chef.
? Experience in evaluating and comparing performance and/or robustness of software algorithms and/or systems.
? Experience in open source software development.
