The Institute of Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) is seeking a faculty member to join the Institute starting September 2016. Our faculty demonstrate excellence in conducting community-inspired applied research and contribute to the intellectual vibrancy of the university, while teaching rigorous classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to prepare students for rewarding careers in computing and engineering professions.
Applications are currently being accepted for one tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Information Technology program. This is a full-time position with a 9-month service period. The position requires a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in one of the following domains: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field. We are seeking candidates with research foci in HCI, cyber security, systems integration, or wireless networks and mobile systems. Outstanding candidates whose research areas complement those of current faculty and those with industry experience and/or demonstrated cross-disciplinary expertise in teaching and research are highly encouraged to apply.
The Institute of Technology was created in 2001 through a public/private partnership to address the critical industry demand for baccalaureate and masters level computing and engineering professionals. The Institute’s 750+ students are enrolled in three undergraduate degree programs: Computer Engineering and Systems (ABET accredited), Computer Science and Systems, and Information Technology, in addition to a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Systems, and a professional master’s degree in Cybersecurity and Leadership, in partnership with UW Tacoma’s Milgard School of Business. The Institute will be expanding its degree offerings as it continues to grow. New undergraduate programs in Electrical Engineering, Cyber Engineering and Systems Engineering are in development. Our MS in Computer Science and Systems will also be expanding by adding interdisciplinary, data centric tracks that leverage the research strengths of other academic units on campus, particularly in GIS, Health Informatics and Environmental Science. It is also the academic home for two research centers: the Center for Data Science, with established research partnerships that currently engage the healthcare and insurance industries, corporate and government entities, and other universities worldwide, providing faculty, research staff and students with applied research opportunities; and the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, with designations as both educational and research centers of excellence, which maintains research partnerships with government labs, the telecommunications industry, and universities throughout the world.
