3-year Research Assistant Position in Machine Learning for Attribute-Based Access Control Policies
Country/Region : Cyprus
Description
The Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Informatics, Cyprus University of Technology, offers one 3-year Research Assistant Position to work on the development of novel machine learning algorithms for attribute-based access control policies, with the aim to establish personal mobile devices to the role of a unified authentication and authorization proxy towards the digital world.
This position is funded by an E.C. HORIZON 2020 grant the Department has received in collaboration with several leading European industrial partners, including among others Telefonica Research, Verizon, CertSign, as well as several renowned academic research institutions throughout Europe.
This position will focus on the development of novel algorithms to enable effective data-driven access control policies on smart mobile devices. Towards this end, we expect to resort to the paradigm of Deep Learning algorithms, with the aim to come up with appropriate models for addressing the problem at hand. Of special interest will also be the development of scalable inference algorithms for the developed models, suitable for real-time execution on handheld devices, as well as appropriate on-line model (re-)adaptation algorithms, driven by efficient feedback gathering techniques.
Cyprus University of Technology is a newly established university in Cyprus, with high calibre faculty and world-class facilities. Situated in Limassol, the second largest city of the Republic of Cyprus, it offers a combination of extremely high life quality, relaxed atmosphere, entrepreneurial environment, and an academic community of high intellectual esteem. Research studies are offered in either English or Greek language.
We seek applications from enthusiastic individuals who are strongly motivated to help push the boundaries of knowledge and technology in our research. It is essential that you both have experience in software development as well as a solid background in mathematics, especially multivariate calculus and statistics, coupled with a strong interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary international team.
Prospective applicants must hold an MSc or equivalent (e.g., a five-year engineering diploma from Continental European technical universities) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution. They must be also willing to enroll for a PhD degree with the Department (research degree entry requirements will apply).
The position is available at the first instance for a fixed term of 3 years, starting from 1 June 2015, or soon thereafter. Applications should include a statement of research interest. Salary is comparable (in terms of purchasing power) to similar research studentships in leading UK/Continental Europe universities.
For informal inquiries, you are welcome to contact Dr. Sotirios P. Chatzis (http://www.cut.ac.cy/eecei/staff/sotirios.chatzis/...) and Dr. Michael Sirivianos (http://www.cut.ac.cy/eecei/staff//michael.sirivian...).
Application Deadline: 31 March 2015.
