post-doc position in Prague - image analysis, machine learning, bioinformatics

Country/Region : Czech Republic

Website : https://cmp.felk.cvut.cz

Description

The Center for Machine Perception (http://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/) and the Intelligent Data Analysis lab (http://ida.felk.cvut.cz/) at the Czech Technical University in Prague are seeking to appoint a post-doctoral research assistant for their joint project called "Automatic analysis of spatial gene expression patterns" funded by the Grant Agency of Czech Republic. The project aims at developing models and methods for processing large sets of 3D microscopy images for systematic survey of spatio-temporal gene expression patterns e.g. in Drosophila eggs at different development stages. The project will be run in tight cooperation with the research group "Patterns of gene expression in animal development" at Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany led by Dr. Pavel Tomancak. The project goals cover all the range from image analysis (e.g. model based segmentation, co-registration) over machine learning (e.g. supervised and unsupervised learning of graphical and rule-based models) to data mining (e.g. linking learned patterns to background knowledge). More details can be found at http://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/~kybic/proposed.html
The successful candidate is expected to have outstanding experience in at least one, but preferably two of the following fields: computer vision, machine learning and data mining. We expect from the candidates a strong theory driven approach towards algorithmics and practical application tasks. The applicants should have expertise in working with Java or C++ and the willingness to release developed code to the cell biology community. The post holder is expected to be able to cooperate effectively with experts in related areas of biology.
The post is full time for 33 months starting from April 2014 or as soon as possible after this date. The salary is competitive for Czech Republic and will depend on the track record of the successful candidate.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Jan Kybic.
The closing date for applications is 23 March 2014.
Interviews are expected to be held soon after the closing date.
