Description

The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications from outstanding scholars for 3 tenure-stream positions, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2015, or shortly thereafter.
We strongly encourage innovative, diverse and interdisciplinary approaches to the field of engineering, and seek applications from leading candidates in areas that relate to one or more of the following strategic research areas identified in the Faculty Academic Plan (engineering.utoronto.ca): 1. Bioengineering; 2. Sustainability; 3. Information & Communication Technology; 4. Enabling Technologies. Successful candidates will hold a budgetary cross-appointment in at least two of the following academic units: Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry; Department of Civil Engineering; Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Department of Materials Science and Engineering; Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering; Institute for Aerospace Studies; Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering.
Applicants must have a PhD in a related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. The selection will be based primarily on an applicant’s excellence in research and teaching, as well as the interdisciplinary nature of the research program, such that a budgetary cross-appointment to at least two of the academic units mentioned above is sufficient to justify. The successful candidates are expected to pursue innovative research at the highest international level, lead a self-funded research program, supervise graduate students, and publish articles in internationally recognized top-tier journals in the related field. Candidates must provide strong evidence of research of an internationally competitive caliber, as evidenced by publication in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, accolades for creative work, and strong endorsements by referees. Post-doctoral experience, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline are assets. Additionally, the successful candidates must demonstrate the capacity for teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, letters of reference and the teaching statement submitted as part of the application. The Faculty is especially interested in individuals with a commitment to or demonstration of innovative undergraduate teaching. Rank and salary will be determined based on the evaluation of a candidate’s experience.
