Website : http://www.eng.ox.ac.uk/jobs/current-vac...

Description

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Ocean Engineering/ Information Engineering to join the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The PDRA will be part of both Civil Engineering and Information Engineering research groups. The post is funded by EPSRC and is fixed-term for 13 months. The candidate should be able to start by October 2015 at the latest.
The project aims to improve the existing methods (harmonic analysis) for prediction of tidal currents. The project will use techniques from the machine learning community and apply these to the analysis and prediction of tidal currents. You will be responsible for developing and testing an algorithm to predict tidal currents at some arbitrary time in past or future, based on measured or model data.
You should possess (or be close to completion of) a doctorate in a relevant subject, or have equivalent industry or research experience. Specialist knowledge of machine learning or physical oceanography with the ability to develop knowledge of the other is essential. Good communication skills are also essential.
