The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, WA invites applications for two permanent full-time tenure-track faculty positions in Computer Science with core research emphasis in machine learning or related fields. The first position is at the Associate or Full Professor level and the second position is at the Assistant Professor level. We are particularly interested in building interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues from across the WSU system in the university’s strategic priorities in Global Animal Health, Agriculture, Clean Technology, and Renewable Bioenergy. Added to that, the university’s pursuit of a medical school on the health sciences campus in Spokane represents significant interdisciplinary and collaborative research and educational opportunities for the EECS faculty and students. Therefore, candidates with interdisciplinary expertise in the above strategic areas will be given priority consideration.
All candidates must be committed to building an active research program. Candidates must have earned a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline prior to their start date. Candidates for the associate position will have established 5 years of experience. Candidates for the full professor position will have established 7 years of experience. Candidates must have a strong commitment to conducting publishable funded research, strong leadership potential, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to diversifying the student body. The job duties of the successful candidate will be to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, effectively communicate and interact with students, collaborate with others within the School, the University, or other organizations, conduct funded research, publish in top-tier venues, and direct MS and PhD student research programs. Candidates applying at the associate or full professor level must also possess a strong record of achievement in academia and/or industry.
These new faculty will join a strong and growing group of eight faculty in the areas of machine learning and data science (school.eecs.wsu.edu/research/smart_environments), as well as faculty affiliated with the WSU Smart Environments Research Center (SERC, serc.wsu.edu), which is a signature area of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture at WSU. The School of EECS has seen rapid growth in enrollment over the past three years with 900 undergraduate and 160 graduate students enrolled as of Fall 2014. EECS expects continued increase in enrollments and anticipates additional faculty hires in order to build a world-class research group in these areas.
