Internship opportunity in computer vision at Xerox Research Centre Europ

Country/Region : France

Website : http://xrce.xerox.com

Description

Internship: Computer Vision Internship at Xerox
Group: Computer Vision Group, Xerox Research Centre Europe
Location: Grenoble, France
Proposers: Naila Murray and Eleonora Vig
Duration: 4 to 6 months
Start Date: between April and June, 2015
Title: Object proposals for detection and tracking
Description: The fundamental shift in object localization from dense window classification to object proposals has led to the appearance of a variety of candidate generation approaches, including objectness [Alexe'10], selective search [van de Sande'11], BING [Cheng'14], and edge boxes [Zitnick'14]. These approaches aim for cost-efficient generation of a limited set of class-independent window candidates that likely contain objects of interest. Existing methods speed up detection significantly, but they typically do not take into consideration the global image structure. This internship will involve investigating the use of global object cues to extract more appropriate candidate windows for detection. Depending on the interest and profile of the successful applicant, visual attention cues derived from eye-fixation data may also be investigated as a global cue. The proposed methods will be evaluated in the context of object detection and tracking.
The successful applicant will be given the freedom and flexibility to explore his/her solutions, and will also have the guidance and support of experienced full-time Xerox researchers that work on this topic.
Requirements:
? Enrollment in a graduate program (PhD program is a plus)
? Strong knowledge in computer vision and in machine learning
? Strong development skills in either C/C++, Matlab, or Python
? Fluent in written and oral English
? Highly motivated
