Postdoc position on knowledge discovery in biomedical and epidemiological data at University of Bristol

Country/Region : UK - United Kingdom

Website : http://www.bristol.ac.uk

Description

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the application of data mining to knowledge discovery in biomedical and epidemiological data. The successful applicant will work in a highly interdisciplinary Medical Research Council Unit at the University of Bristol with a focus on discovering causal mechanisms underlying disease in a population context.
The MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol (IEU) establishes an innovative collection of programmes and cross-cutting themes, underpinned by core research activities to fuel a step-change in causal analysis methods and their application. Substantial investment from both the UK Medical Research Council and the University of Bristol provides resources for staff, research support and infrastructure to execute world-leading multi-disciplinary research in a vibrant, forward-looking environment.
The cross-cutting theme on Data Mining and Bioinformatics is led jointly by Dr Tom Gaunt and Prof Peter Flach. We collaborate with a number of large-scale population studies which collect a complex array of molecular, medical, health, disease and lifestyle data. This post will apply technologies for dynamic data integration (eg biomedical ontologies, noSQL, RDF, SPARQL) to enable knowledge discovery across diverse data sources. The postholder will work on projects across a number of different research programmes (see http://www.bristol.ac.uk/ieu/research/ ).
Informal enquiries can be made to Tom Gaunt (Tom.Gaunt-AT-bristol.ac.uk) or Peter Flach (Peter.Flach-AT-bristol.ac.uk). The closing date for applications is 8th of December, 2014. More information about the post and how to apply is available here: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/jobs/find/details.html?nP...
