Postdoc, on the subject of Spatio-temporal and/or Distributed Data Management Technology.
Job description
A postdoc position is available to work under the direction of prof. M.L. Kersten on spatio-temporal and/or distributed database technology within the context of the TimeTrails project of the COMMIT program. COMMIT is a Dutch national use-inspired fundamental ICT-research program that unites academic research and (non-)profit organizations in ICT. Within COMMIT, the TimeTrails --- Spatiotemporal Data Warehouses for Trajectory Exploitation --- project focusses on data managements for spatio-temporal trajectories and massif point clouds.
The candidate should develop in this context novel algorithms and techniques for Big Data Analytics. We strongly favour research that can be disseminated through the open-source channels, e.g., as part of our open-source columnar analytical DBMS MonetDB.
The preferred starting date is 1 January 2015, or earlier.
Requirements:
Candidates are required to have a completed PhD in the area of computer science with a specialization in databases, software engineering, compiler technology, or distributed systems. The candidate has demonstrated his/her research talent through his/her publication track record, system programming skills (C, Java), and practical experience in compiler- and/or database technology in distributed settings.
An excellent command of English as well as good academic writing and presentation skills are mandatory.
Terms and conditions:
The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen"). The gross monthly salary for an employee on a full time basis, depending on relevant work experience, ranges from ? 3,121 to ? 4,439. The appointment will be for a period of two years
Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.33%. CWI offers attractive working conditions, including flexible scheduling.
