Description

EBI/Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre 3-year postdoctoral fellowship in computational biology & genetics
As part of a newly launched joint postdoc program between EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute and the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre (EBPOD), we seek outstanding candidates for a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship in the area of translational statistical genetics. This project will exploit the phenotypic richness of the INTERVAL study (www.intervalstudy.org.uk), providing access to deep genetic and molecular profiling information in a large cohort of 50,000 blood donors. These data offer unique opportunities to build integrative analysis approaches, combining high-dimensional phenotype modeling with statistical genetics to map the genetic and environmental determinants of human metabolism.
The fellowship would particularly suit applicants with a strong background in machine learning and statistics, preferably with some background in biology/genetics and experience in developing scientific software. The fellow will primarily be based in the Stegle lab at the EMBL European Bioinformatics Institute and will closely interact with the Genomic Epidemiology team at the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (Head: Butterworth, Dept of Public Health & Primary Care, University of Cambridge) and the Soranzo Lab (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute). This project provides excellent opportunities at the cutting edge of both statistical/medical genetics and systems biology approaches.
An outline of the project aims can be found here: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/sites/ebi.ac.uk/files/groups/.... For details of the EBPOD postdoc program and information on how to apply, see: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/research/postdocs/ebpods.
For informal enquiries, please contact Oliver Stegle, Adam Butterworth or Nicole Soranzo.
The closing date for applications is Monday September 29th.
