Sr. Software Engineer
HERE is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machine learning or data mining or statistical analysis. Previous experience working with large scale data is a plus.
The candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on algorithm development and evaluation and be able to learn and integrate complementary technologies outside their specific area of expertise. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills for communicating their scientific approach to product managers and engineers and serve as a technical resource to others.
RESPONSIBILITIES
? Develop machine learning, data mining or statistical algorithms on large scale data to extract features for digital mapping
? Evaluate and analyze algorithms and results in a scientific method
? Implement algorithms in product quality Java or C/C++ code
? Communicate effectively research and development
? Understand the state-of-the-art and innovate with IP generations
Qualifications
? M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, or 4+ years experience in a relevant role
? Proven success in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
? Comfortable manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
? A strong passion for applied research and development
? Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
? Fluency with at least one scripting language such as Python or PHP
? Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
? Experience with machine learning solutions and pattern recognition techniques
? Strong math background
? Expert knowledge of an analysis tool such as R, Matlab, or SAS
? Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.)
? Proven ability to quickly prototype in languages like C++ or Java
? Ability to design efficient algorithms for accessing and analyzing large amounts of data
