One PhD student position is available for January 2015 admission in Dr. LU Haiping's group, CS Department, Hong Kong Baptist University
1. Area & focus: machine learning, big multidimensional data applications in computer vision, biomedical engineering, and data mining.
2. Requirement: strong programming skills (Matlab, C/C++), solid math background, keen in research & top papers.
3. Scholarship: 3-4 years with standard support of HK$14,350/month.

Brief Biography of Dr. Lu Haiping:
Dr. Lu is now an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2008, and the M.Eng. and B.Eng. degrees from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2004 and 2001, respectively. Before joining HKBU in Aug 2013, Dr. Lu was a Scientist with Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) from 2009 to 2013, and a post-doctoral fellow with the University of Toronto from 2008 to 2009.
His current research interests include machine learning, big data, computer vision, data mining, biomedical engineering, and tensor-based computation. His 37 papers (32 first-authored) received more than 1000 citations (>27 citations/paper). He is the leading author of the book "Multilinear Subspace Learning: Dimensionality Reduction of Multidimensional Data" (CRC Press, 2013), and the recipient of the 2013 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award. His PhD student has been selected to receive the prestigious award of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship 2014/15. He is one of the recipients of the 2014 Early Career Award by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.
